Himatangi Beach boasts some of the widest beaches in New Zealand. Whether you’re an early riser who loves a peaceful morning stroll or you prefer a sunset walk with the sound of waves crashing beside you, our beaches are perfect for you. Most days, you’ll find the beaches blissfully deserted, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
You can even Drive on the Beach
Unlike most beaches in NZ, here you can still drive on the beach 90% of the time, with access to the front waves and at low tide, you can often drive south to Foxton Beach in a 2WD(Manawatu River mouth for fishing) and in a 4WD you can get to Tangimoana, which hosts the Rangitikei River mouth. Both areas are popular for surfcasting and whitebaiting during the season.
Enjoy Fantastic Fishing
For fishing enthusiasts, Himatangi Beach is a dream come true. Cast your line from the shore, launch your Contiki or venture out into the deeper waters for a more adventurous experience on your kayak, jetski or beach launched boat. There is a very good boat ramp at Foxton Beach, and we suggest you follow the Foxton Beach Marine Boating Club for info. The rich marine life ensures a rewarding fishing trip, whether you're a seasoned angler or a beginner trying your luck.
